Students enrolling in Des Moines University’s clinical programs may be eligible for a medical dual degree option leading to a master of public health, a master of health care administration, master of science in biomedical science or master of science in anatomy.
This option enables students to combine their clinical knowledge and practice with expertise gained in the master’s degree program, helping their patients and enhancing their professional options and careers. Coursework for the health care administration and public health master’s degrees can be completed online.
Master of Health Care Administration
The M.H.A. curriculum is designed to support health services management professionals. Courses provide an opportunity for students to develop their management skills and expand their understanding of the health care delivery system.

Master of Public Health
The M.P.H. program is designed to provide students with the skills to lead community efforts in improving the health of populations of all ages. Courses provide the opportunity for students to develop skills in identifying, resolving and preventing health problems that affect communities and populations.
Students must complete 45 semester hours to earn the M.P.H. degree and the degree is available entirely online and on-campus. The public health program may recognize up to 6 credit hours from the clinical program toward completion of a dual degree. Master of Science in Anatomy
The M.S. in anatomy program provides advanced training in anatomy and is designed to prepare students for a professional career in academic teaching. The mission of the master of science in anatomy program is to equip students for professional careers in teaching anatomy and expand the fund of anatomic knowledge for dual degree students who plan to enter medical specialties underpinned by anatomical knowledge.

Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences
The M.S. in biomedical sciences program is designed to enable students to further develop their careers in medical and scientific research and academic medicine with the goal of improving human health.
The M.S. program requires 40 credit hours of coursework. Students will select a primary focus of study in their first year while completing the majority of their coursework. The second year will be focused primarily on research. Dual degree students will be required to take a one-year leave of absence from their medical program following completion of Part 1 of their Board exams, which results in a 5-year total commitment for completion of the dual degree. Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences
The Ph.D. program in biomedical sciences at DMU aims to train future biomedical scientists and, in conjunction with DMU’s doctoral programs in osteopathic and podiatric medicine, physician/scientists with a broad knowledge of the foundational disciplines for a career in biomedical research, including Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology.
