In an effort to expand educational opportunities to our local and global community, individuals may apply to enroll in select coursework at Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences without being admitted into a degree program. These courses may be beneficial for individuals to expand their knowledge in a certain subject matter or serve as preparation for a graduate program.

Additional courses beyond those outlined below may be considered. Review and approval by the applicable program director are required prior to enrollment.

How to Apply

Plan to submit the following application materials at least 30 days prior to the beginning of the course.

Application Materials

  1. Online Application and $60 Application Fee
    Select โ€œnon-degreeโ€ as your program option. Within the application, you will be able to select the course or certificate you intend to pursue.
  2. Brief Personal Statement
    Describe why you wish to pursue non-degree coursework at DMU.
  3. Official Transcripts and/or Proof of Degreeย 
    • College of Osteopathic Medicine, Health Care Administration, Public Health Courses: Proof of bachelorโ€™s degree is required. If a bachelorโ€™s degree was not completed within the U.S., you must plan to submit a degree equivalency evaluation through World Education Services.
    • Current DMU students do not need to resubmit official transcripts already on file at DMU.
  4. Send all required documentation to:

Please Note the Following:

  • Non-degree coursework at DMU may be a good preparation for future degree programs, but it does not guarantee admission to DMUโ€™s degree programs.
  • Future applicants to degree programs within the Department of Public Health may apply directly to DMU. Graduate Certificate students may apply all certificate credits to the MHA or MPH programs (when the degree program is associated with the completed certificate) if they received a grade of B- or higher and the course was taken within the past four years.
  • Standard tuition rates, fees and policies apply. DMU students currently in clinical programs (DO,ย DPM,ย DPT,ย OTD,ย PA) who are in good academic standing and are registered in MHA and MPH courses as non-degree seeking students receive a 25% tuition discount on up to 12 semester hours of non-degree credit.
  • Non-degree students are not eligible for financial aid.
  • Students previously dismissed from an academic program at DMU are ineligible to take coursework associated with the program from which they were dismissed through the non-degree process.

After Approval

Following submission of all required documentation, your file will be reviewed and you will be notified within several days of the decision. If an applicant is approved for course registration as a non-degree student or accepted to a graduate certificate program, the following steps are required to complete the process:

  • Submit a $250 tuition seat deposit to secure your seat, which will be credited toward your tuition in your first course.
  • You will receive access to DMU email, learning management and library services systems through Pulse, DMUโ€™s intranet.
  • Registration will be processed through Pulse during a designated registration period.
