The mission of the biochemistry and nutrition department is to educate the students of the University, to engage in scholarly activity and to serve the University and the community.
Vision
The faculty of the biochemistry and nutrition department at Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences will be recognized for the quality of their teaching and scholarship and for their commitment to student success.ย
Our faculty members conduct scholarly work spanning diverse areas such as the metabolism of proliferating cells, the mechanisms underlying the development of hypertension, bioinformatics and statistical applications in healthcare and biomedical sciences, and innovations in medical education.ย ย ย
In addition to delivering educational content for multiple clinical programs, the faculty members from the department provide mentorship to students in DMU's graduate biomedical sciences programs (M.S.B.S. and Ph.D.) ย
The department also supports DMUโs Mentored Student Research Program, an initiative led by the Universityโs Office of Research, which has offered research experiences to undergraduate and medical students since 2001. In addition, faculty are committed to DMUโs vision of championing community service through our longstanding collaboration with STEM programs offered by local schools.
