Are you an undergraduate junior or senior, or do you know of one, who is interested in medicine and the health sciences? Then you should know about Des Moines University’s Health Professions Advanced Summer Scholars (Health P.A.S.S.) program. Aimed at promising juniors and seniors from populations under-represented in medicine and health care, including minority, low-income and/or first-generation college students, the three-week program offers participants a wonderful opportunity to experience the next phase of their education and careers as health care professionals.
During the three-week program, students
- Learn from lectures and presentations in osteopathic medicine, podiatric medicine, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies
- Enjoy hands-on experiences in state-of-the-art facilities
- Shadow doctors and other health care providers
- Prepare for medical/health professions school by participating in mock interviews
- Receive guidance from current DMU student mentors
Enrollment in this program is limited to 10 students. A minimum cumulative college grade point average of 3.2 is recommended. The University covers the cost of participants’ meals and residence hall accommodations at nearby Drake University; a DMU student serves as a resident assistant. A travel stipend of up to $500 is available, too.
The 2017 Health P.A.S.S. program will take place June 3-23. Applications are due February 15, and supporting materials must be received no later than March 1. Find the online application here.
