Hometown: Moline, IL
Undergrad School: Iowa State University
Class: Master of Public Health – Class of 2010
Were you surprised by anything in the program?
Coming from a large university to a much smaller one was different for me, it was almost a reverse culture shock. I never really had a one on one relationship with any of my professors before. The DMU faculty are awesome, they are willing to assist in any way to help you succeed.
Any advice for prospective students?
Don’t be afraid to step outside of your element. My current job has nothing to do with public health, and while that will eventually change, I like the challenge it presents because I am able to really see where my true passion is.

After graduating from Iowa State with a bachelors in sociology I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. While I was trying to figure that I out I felt myself once again being pulled toward the health care field and I missed interacting with the Public on a daily basis. I began researching DMU on the web and was drawn to the fact that it was completely different than ISU in terms of size, programs and student to teacher ratio. The flexibility of the program was also a plus because working full-time while attending DMU part time does present some challenges, but I wouldn’t change a thing!
I would love to be involved in Disaster Response and Community Health Education programs. I am definitely not a 9 to 5 type job girl. I want to be out in the community assisting and educating in any way I can.
