Alumnus surgeon elected president of national surgical society

Scott Nelson, D.P.M.’00, FACFAS

On Feb. 20, Scott C. Nelson, D.P.M.’00, FACFAS, took office as the 69th president of the 7,700-member American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS). The official induction took place during the college’s Annual Scientific Conference in San Antonio. The event is the largest educational meeting for foot and ankle surgeons in the U.S., drawing attendees from around the world to discuss the most current techniques and technology for treatment of deformities, diseases and injuries of the foot and ankle.

“I am extremely honored to accept the role of president and lead the college at such an exciting time,” said Dr. Nelson. “I look forward to working alongside our new CEO and the ACFAS Board of Directors to continue advancing the college’s mission and serving the membership to help enhance and move our profession forward.”

Dr. Nelson is a foot and ankle surgeon with Catholic Health Initiative in Omaha, NE. A Fellow Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, he is board-certified in both foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Dr. Nelson completed his residency at both the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh and the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Mary’s, OH. He frequently lectures on foot and ankle surgery, and his research has been published in numerous journals and textbooks.
