Allan Coates, D.O.’80

Allan Coates, D.O.’80, joined Sheridan Community Hospital in Sheridan, MI. He has been a primary investigator at West Michigan Clinical Research Center for the past 20 years. He has participated in a number of studies, including those for a number of gastroenterology conditions, including GERD, non-ulcer dyspepsia, hepatitis C, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel syndrome. As a result of his involvement, a large number of patients of the center were recently enrolled in a clinical trial for a new treatment for irritable bowel syndrome that was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Coates completed his residency in internal medicine at Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids and his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology. His clinical interests include gastroesophageal reflux disease, esophageal motility disorders, inflammatory bowel disease and chronic liver disease.
