Pediatrics is a division of the Specialty Medicine department and consists of pediatrics and pediatric subspecialties including: pediatric hospitalists, pediatric intensivists and pediatric emergency physicians. Our faculty members are committed to the pediatric education of medical students and residents in all aspects of teaching, clinical practice, and research. Our goal is to prepare medical students to care for the health care needs of children from newborn through adolescence.

The pediatrics faculty members provide didactic instruction to students in years one and two in the classroom, small group discussions, simulations, and neonatology labs. As a result, our students have a strong foundation in the practice of pediatrics and are confident and well prepared to meet the challenge of clinical rotations in the third and fourth years.

In the third and fourth years, our students are exposed to both inpatient and outpatient pediatrics in their required core clerkship, and they can choose many different pediatric electives including pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric intensive care medicine, pediatric neurology, pediatric nephrology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric surgery and pediatric gastroenterology.
