“Preventive Medicine in an Electronic Age” panel includes Congressman Boswell, DMU dean, local medical experts


(Des Moines, IA) –
Congressman Leonard Boswell will headline the “Preventive Medicine in an Electronic Age” discussion on Wednesday, August 23 at noon at Des Moines University (DMU) in the Olsen Medical Education Center, 3200 Grand Avenue.
The event will include discussion of preventive medicine and wellness, electronic medical records and mental health issues with the following local medical experts:

—Mary Mincer Hansen, Ph.D., is the director of the Iowa Department of Public Health. She has been a member of Senator Tom Harkin’s health advisory committee and is a charter member of the National Health Policy Council.

—Gregory Peterson, D.O., is a 1979 alum of Des Moines University and chief medical director of Diagnostic and Critical Care Medicine and the Diabetes Center of Iowa.

—Steve R. Eckstat, D.O., is a 1972 DMU alum and the medical director of the Mercy West Medical Clinic. He is also the medical director for the Free Clinics of Iowa, which is based at Des Moines University.

—Kendall Reed, D.O., FACOS, FACS, is the dean of Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He specializes in surgical oncology.

Des Moines University President Governor Terry E. Branstad will introduce the panel at noon, Congressman Boswell will speak and then Dr. Reed will begin moderating the discussion. At 12:45 p.m., the panel will answer questions from the audience related to any of the three topics — preventive medicine and wellness, electronic medical records or mental health issues.
