Warm a heart; help someone in need

4th floorThe DMU Community Service Committee initiated a regular food drive on campus this summer (maybe you’ve seen the shopping carts in various buildings?) and recently added a collection box on each floor. To the right you’ll see a photo of the Academic Center’s 4th floor box. It’s fairly full (you can’t see the cans behind the boxes) and ready to be dumped into the carts and delivered to those in need. But our 4th floor collection is sad compared to what those crazy cats in admissions collected… check it out:

Way to go, Enrollment team!! You’re going to need a bigger box soon! If you’re able to donate to the box, drop any boxed or canned non-perishable items into the box in your area or any of the shopping carts.

There are a few other ways you can help those in need without leaving campus…

Student Senate & the DMU Homeless Camp Outreach Group are collecting blankets. You can drop them off in the gray & blue bin in the SEC common area, Oct. 12-30. Or you can drop off a check or cash to the Student Services office (in the memo field write “blanket drive.”)

The SNPMA group is collecting shoes for Soles4Souls Oct. 12-23. Drop new or gently worn shoes into the collection box in the SEC commons!

Also, the Crafting for Charity Club, which meets at DMU, will host the second annual quilt-in at DMU in the MEC, Dec. 11, 5-9 p.m., and Dec. 12, 8 a.m.05 p.m. You can help them spread the word or collect supplies – donations and volunteers are needed. To RSVP or see what supplies are needed, email TheCraftingForCharityClub@gmail.com.
