Andrew Brittingham is an associate professor of microbiology and immunology at Des Moines University specializing in parasitology. His research emphasis has always focused on the host – pathogen interaction. He is particularly interested in the mechanisms used by pathogens to avoid destruction by the immune system.
Current projects
- An examination of the processes that regulation the production of the vasoconstrictive peptide, endothelin-1 (ET-1), by macrophages in response to microbial challenge.
- A collaborative project with Dr. Wayne Wilson (Biochemistry) examining the acquisition and utilization of carbohydrates by parasitic protozoa including Trichomonas vaginalis and Giardia and lamblia.
