Newt Gingrich to speak at Des Moines University

(Des Moines, IA) – Newt Gingrich, former U.S. Speaker of the House, is scheduled to speak at Des Moines University on Friday, August 12, 2005, from Noon – 1 p.m. in the Student Education Center, 3300 Grand Avenue. His stop in Des Moines is part of a nationwide tour to discuss his proposed redesign of the U.S. health care system and gather input from community members. The event is free and open to the public.

Gingrich will conduct a roundtable discussion on “Health Transformation.” The topic is the cornerstone of The Center for Health Transformation, a project Gingrich launched in 2003. The Center is a collaboration of private and public sector leaders committed to creating a 21st Century Intelligent Health System that saves lives and money for all Americans. The Center is based on the premise that small changes or reactionary fixes to separate pieces of the current system have not and will not work and that system-wide transformation is needed. The Center unites stakeholders across the spectrum (providers, employers, vendors, trade associations, disease groups, think tanks) and government leaders at both the state and federal level to drive transformation according to a shared vision and key principles.
