Financial aid

The financial aid office provides students with information concerning types of loans, scholarship and grant information, forms, budgets and helpful addresses and phone numbers. The financial aid office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located on fourth floor of the Academic Center.

The financial aid office will work with you to figure out a combination of loans and scholarships to pay for graduate school.

DMU awarded more than $3.3 million in scholarships in the 2009-2010 academic year.

DMU’s tuition and cost of attendance budgets are an average of what expenses may be and is also the maximum you can receive. You can request any amount of financial aid up to the DMU student budget for your class. Federal regulations do not allow the financial aid office to certify a student for more than the student budget (this includes all financial aid resources including but not limited to loans, scholarships, NHSC, HPSP (military) or any other form of financial aid a student may be receiving).

Des Moines University is a private institution and has the same tuition for in-state and out-of-state students.

How to apply for financial aid

  • First-time borrowers need to complete an entrance interview. This is available as part of the financial aid packet on Pulse. Next, complete the FAFSA online. This must be done every academic year to determine eligibility. Please have a copy of the prior years tax form.
  • To apply for a Direct Stafford Loan all first-time borrowers or incoming students are required to complete a Direct Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN). All Stafford borrowers are required to complete a Direct Loan Request Form every year (available on the DMU student section of Pulse). If you are applying for a GradPlus loan please refer to the financial aid packet on Pulse for information and instructions.
  • Once financial aid has been processed, an award letter is emailed to your DMU email address. This is notification that the school has approved the amounts listed. If a GradPlus loan was certified, the lender approves or denies the loan based on credit.
