Your DMSc Admissions Process

Your future as a doctor of medical science starts here.

We’re excited to help you begin. Follow these steps to get started on your application to Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences.

Step-by-Step Guide to DMU’s Admissions Process

    Application Process

    1. Review the Requirements for Admission

Before applying to the Doctor of Medical Science program, confirm that you meet the admission requirements:

    • Applicants must be currently enrolled in DMU’s Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program (didactic phase) or be a graduate of a master’s-level program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant.
    • Current DMU MSPAS students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be in good academic and professional standing.

Applications for Fall 2027 will open in September 2026. Please check back soon.

    2. Complete the Online Application

Applications to the DMSc program are submitted directly through Des Moines University.

The application includes a professional goal statement and a current CV or résumé.

    3. Send Official Transcripts

All applicants must submit official transcripts showing all undergraduate and graduate coursework, including grades and degrees. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution’s registrar.

Applicants with coursework completed outside the United States must also submit a course-by-course Foreign Transcript Evaluation through World Education Services. This evaluation must be sent directly to DMU, and applications will not be considered complete without it. Certification through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates does not replace this requirement.

Note: The DMSc program does not accept transfer credits or experiential learning credits.

    4. Submit Evaluations and References

Graduates of an ARC-PA–accredited master’s-level PA program must submit one letter of recommendation from a supervisor or professional peer.

Current DMU MSPAS students should submit a letter of recommendation from a DMU academic advisor. Applicants will enter the name and email address of their recommender within the application.

    5. Write Your Professional Goal Statement

Your professional goal statement should address the following:

    • Why do you want to pursue your DMSc at Des Moines University? Be sure to specify your desired concentration.
    • How will the DMSc degree build upon your previous academic, professional or clinical experiences toward the attainment of your professional career goals?
    • Describe your experiences and explain how they have shaped your professional growth and leadership potential.
