Mission statement: To support students to excel academically and faculty in their quest to improve and further develop their pedagogical knowledge and skills as teachers, scholars, and partners in educating our students to become highly competent and compassionate health professionals.
The purpose of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is to advance excellence and cultural competency in teaching and learning. This is accomplished by utilizing resources to create, manage, and sustain innovative and collaborative faculty-driven programs to support the improvement of instruction in all university academic programs. The center also serves as a resource for the assessment of student learning.
Many faculty arrive at DMU after strong careers as clinicians or research post-docs. They have little experience with laboratory/classroom instruction, curricular mapping, the assessment of learning, academic program review, or ways to engage in the scholarship of teaching and learning. The Center provides programming to address those needs.
To assist our students in becoming highly competent and compassionate health care professionals, we develop and provide educational services that support and enrich their academic success including academic consultations, workshops, peer tutoring, and educational accommodations.
