The Groben Wellness Lab at Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences is a cornerstone of student and employee wellness programming.
The lab, a gift from Jean and Paul Groben, D.O.โ75, offers hands-on learning opportunities that blend nutrition education and practical culinary skills and teaches students how to best serve their future patients. The space features six fully-equipped cooking stations and state-of-the-art technology.
The lab is used for a range of programs, including DMUโs healthy cooking elective and afternoon lunch-and-learns. The occupational therapy department also uses the space to teach students how to support future patients in achieving independence.
Events that take place in the lab are designed to be hybrid, ensuring that anyone can benefit from the kitchenโs programming, whether they can attend in person or not.
โWe are truly lucky to have this space to offer programs and events to everyone on campus,โ says Ryan Radloff, DMU wellness center director. โOur goal is to offer something in the lab every week.โ
