Valerie Torgerson, D.O.’93

Valerie Torgerson, D.O.’93, a family physician provider at McFarland Clinic in Ames, IA, was featured in a video on the clinic’s website titled “Angie’s Extraordinary Story – How Her Doctors Found Cancer.” The video was a testimonial by a patient for whom Torgerson recommended a fecal immunochemical test (FIT), which tests for hidden blood in the stool that can be an indicator of colon cancer. The test detected blood in Angie’s sample, which led to her receiving additional treatment by McFarland physicians. After another round of testing, the results showed Angie was cancer-free.

“I think the choice I made to continue my care with McFarland really came down to the trust I had with Dr. Torgerson,” Angie says in the video. “We had built this relationship, so when she referred me on to a doctor for my colonoscopy, I trusted that recommendation.”
