Christopher J. Unrein, D.O.’88, FACOI, FACP, CMD, was featured on the cover of the April 25, 2017, issue of Medical Economics and in the cover story about the journal’s 88th annual physician report. The report analyzed the financial situation, stresses and career attitudes of primary care physicians across the country. Unrein is chief academic officer at the Rocky Mountain Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institute in Parker, CO; medical director of the Rocky Vista Health Center; professor of internal medicine at Rocky Vista University; and clinical professor of internal medicine at the University of Colorado in Denver. In the article, he expressed concerns that increasing demands on doctors to collect data may cause “the dynamic of the human conversation” to get lost. He noted his volunteer hospice and public policy work, interactions with medical students and residents, and the opportunity to make positive differences in patients’ lives as ways he feels rewarded in his career.
