Leonard A. Mermel, D.O.’84, ScM, AM (Hon.), FSHEA, FIDSA, FACP, was the 2016 recipient of the Milton W. Hamolsky, M.D., Outstanding Physician Award given by the Rhode Island Hospital Medical Staff Association. The honor recognizes a physician who has made exceptional contributions to medicine, medical education and research; who has demonstrated leadership; and who has been an exemplary role model. Mermel is professor of medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University; medical director of the department of epidemiology and infection control at Rhode Island Hospital; and an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy.
