Using D2L Chat Tool to Improve Instructor-Student Communication

This post is part of the Online Faculty Best Practices Series.

Best practice champion: Dr. Pamela Duffy in the MPH Program

Dr. Duffy incorporated the D2L Chat tool in her course to answer the student questions regarding an upcoming assessment. According to Dr. Duffy, students enjoyed the opportunity of being able to direct their questions in a synchronous environment. Dr. Duffy also mentioned that the chat session improved her presence in course since the students get to know her in more of a real person with a conversational tone. The Chat tool as being less technologically complicated can be very useful for those students who are not savvy with technology. You can utilize the tool for general conversations as well as personal communications with individual students.
