If you or a loved one required medical treatment, which physician would you choose?
That’s the question dsm Magazine posed in a recent survey to about 1,330 greater Des Moines physicians in an effort to identify some of the area’s most highly regarded doctors in seven medical specialties. The “Top Docs” poll results, published in the August/September/October 2013 issue, included four DMU alumni and one professor/clinician.
“Top Docs” in the category of general surgery were Susan Beck, D.O.’84, FACOS, medical director at the Frederick and Ann Katzmann Breast Center at Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines, and Dennis Whitmer, D.O.’97, FACOS, FACS, medical director of Mercy Surgical Affiliates. Beck is a member of the University’s Board of Trustees.
Carol Horner, D.O.’85, FACOI, who practices at Mercy Capitol Internal Medicine Clinic, was named a “Top Doc” in general internal medicine. Dennis Dornbier, D.O.’86, FACOG, with Obstetrical and Gynecological Associates, tied for top vote-getter in the category obstetrics/gynecology.
In addition, George Clavenna, D.O., M.P.H., DMU professor of specialty medicine and an ophthalmologist with the DMU Clinic, was a “Top Doc” in ophthalmology.
