Mandi has retired from medicine to follow her dream of becoming a carpenter and owning her own construction company. Anyone who knows Mandi knows she has “sawdust in her veins,” coming from a family of builders. She is filling in the gaps in her knowledge by completing an associate’s degree in carpentry and building trades at Southwestern Community College in Osceola, IA. She started her own business, House Doctor of Iowa, LLC, which will specialize in vintage home restoration in central Iowa. Mandi was section chief of foot and ankle surgery, past president of the medical staff and past chair of the department of surgery at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines. She was also vice chair of the Iowa Board of Podiatry and an adjunct faculty member at Des Moines University.
