Barnett has been installed as president of the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians, a statewide professional association comprised of doctors who specialize in family medicine. Currently, the organization has 1,800 members. Barnett provides care for Mercy Medical Center employees at the Employee Health Center in Cedar Rapids, IA. She completed a family medicine residency at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines in affiliation with the University of Iowa College of Medicine. She is also board-certified in family medicine and is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine. She has authored two books on health, one for women, Women: It’s Your Turn, and one for men, Bullet Proof: The Man’s Midlife Guide to Staying Strong, Healthy, and Happy.
