A student in Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences’ Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program has been awarded a $10,000 Caring Hearts Scholarship from the CVS Health Foundation.
Bryn Miller, MSPAS’27, was selected for her academic achievements, service activities and dedication to providing care to others.
“Being recognized with such a meaningful scholarship is truly an honor,” Miller says. “I strive to approach every interaction with compassion, empathy and a genuine desire to support others.”
The CVS Caring Hearts Scholarship supports future health care professionals who demonstrate academic excellence, perseverance, professionalism and a commitment to serving their communities.
According to Laura Delaney, MPAS, PA-C, clinical education coordinator for DMU’s MSPAS program, several students met the scholarship’s criteria, making the selection process highly competitive.
Miller distinguished herself through volunteer work with Can Play Adaptive Sports and other community organizations, as well as her service as wellness coordinator for her PA class.
“Bryn stood out because of her consistent commitment to serving others, her strong academic performance and her ability to balance those responsibilities while pursuing her professional goals,” Delaney says. “She embodies the values celebrated by the CVS Caring Heart Scholarship and is exceptionally deserving of this recognition.”
As she prepares to begin DMU’s new Doctor of Medical Science program this fall, Miller says the scholarship will help her continue pursuing her educational and professional goals.
“After working in a rural community, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of addressing gaps in access to care,” she shares. “My goal is to help meet those needs by providing high-quality care to underserved populations. Earning a doctoral degree will strengthen my abilities as a clinician, educator and leader while advancing the physician assistant profession. This support eases financial stress and allows me to focus on developing the skills I will need to make a lasting difference in the communities I serve.”
