A Grand New Vision

DMU32 Revives a Legacy With New Energy

At 3200 Grand Ave., a Familiar Campus Is Taking on New Life โ€” And New Roles.

The former home of Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences is now the DMU32 Health and Business Complex, a name that honors the universityโ€™s long-standing presence in Des Moines while signaling its vision for the future.

The complex continues to serve the community through health care, professional education and innovative partnerships โ€” including a new collaboration with the Iowa Wolves, the NBA G League affiliate of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

โ€œGenerations of health professionals trained here, and compassionate care continues every day,โ€ says DMU President and CEO Angela L. Walker Franklin, PhD.ย โ€œWeโ€™re proud to honor that legacy and build on it.โ€

A Hub for Health and Learning

The heart of DMU32 is its people and purpose. The Des Moines University Clinic, located on the site since 1986, serves thousands of patients each year with specialties ranging from behavioral health to family medicine.

In Fall 2025, the property also became the home of the Des Moines University Regional Simulation Center, a state-of-the-art educational facility designed for everyone from EMTs and first responders to high school students exploring medical careers. Developed with support from Polk County Supervisors, Des Moines Public Schools and other local partners, the center allows DMU to expand Central Iowaโ€™s health care workforce by supporting practice in simulation and preparation for the job.

Home Court Advantage

When the Wolves took to the court this season, they did so while training at DMU32โ€™s gym, their official practice facility. Once home to intramural dodgeball games and wellness classes, the gym was upgraded to meet NBA standards before welcoming the Wolves. The teamโ€™s presence brings new energy to the campus while leaving the gym accessible to DMU faculty, staff and students in the offseason.

โ€œItโ€™s a full-circle moment for the university and its longtime Grand Avenue location,โ€ Franklin says.
