Creating Tomorrow

Difficult conversations often feel uncomfortable โ€” but theyโ€™re essential for progress

Angela L. Walker Franklin, Ph.D., president and CEO of Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences, has been selected to speak at the University of Northern Iowaโ€™s TEDx event โ€œCreating Tomorrow.โ€ The event will take place Oct. 25 at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Franklin is one of 16 speakers to share โ€œideas worth spreadingโ€ at the event. Her talk, โ€œCalling Out the Elephant in the Room to Trigger Meaningful Dialogue,โ€ shares how curiosity and empathy can transform polarization into collaboration. Using the metaphor of the โ€œelephant in the room,โ€ sheโ€™ll explore how fostering open dialogue creates spaces for diverse perspectives and leads to innovative solutions and stronger communities.
