Difficult conversations often feel uncomfortable — but they’re essential for progress
Angela L. Walker Franklin, Ph.D., president and CEO of Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences, has been selected to speak at the University of Northern Iowa’s TEDx event “Creating Tomorrow.” The event will take place Oct. 25 at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Franklin is one of 16 speakers to share “ideas worth spreading” at the event. Her talk, “Calling Out the Elephant in the Room to Trigger Meaningful Dialogue,” shares how curiosity and empathy can transform polarization into collaboration. Using the metaphor of the “elephant in the room,” she’ll explore how fostering open dialogue creates spaces for diverse perspectives and leads to innovative solutions and stronger communities.
