Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences’ Ajay Sharma, D.O., has joined the providers at the Des Moines University Clinic — Osteopathic Manual Medicine. Sharma will bring over two decades of clinical and academic experience to the clinic, located at 3200 Grand Ave. in Des Moines.
Sharma is board-certified in osteopathic emergency medicine and medical acupuncture through the Helms Medical Institute. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2000 and completed his residency in osteopathic emergency medicine at Michigan State University’s Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital in 2004.
During his 20 years with Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, Sharma built a distinguished career combining clinical expertise with a commitment to medical education. He is a certified instructor in Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Life Saving Obstetrics.
Sharma’s teaching and lecturing experience spans institutions such as the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Carey College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Richard Feely, D.O., FAAO Center for Osteopathy. He has also contributed to the professional development of emergency medicine residents and allied health professionals, emphasizing the importance of palpation and osteopathic principles in modern medicine.
“I’m excited to provide patient-centered care with an emphasis on osteopathic education. Joining the DMU Clinic allows me to combine my passion for teaching with clinical practice, making a meaningful impact on patients and the next generation of osteopathic physicians,” Sharma says.
