DMU students receive Kathie J. Lyman Scholarships

The Polk County Medical Society presented $1,000 Kathie J. Lyman Scholarships to Des Moines University and University of Iowa medical students from Iowa to further their medical education. Des Moines University recipients included Cassandra Drew, D.O.’18, Alex Davis, D.O.’17.

Global Medical Mission $500 scholarships students in DMU’s Global Health Club. Michaela Louise Simmons, D.O.’18, and Marshall Sheide, D.O.’18, received the scholarships to aid their participation in global medical missions to learn about medicine in underserved countries.

The annual scholarships were presented at the Polk County Medical Society Annual Meeting on April 23 at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines. The awards recognize both scholarly achievements and financial need. The annual scholarships are a tribute to the Polk County Medical Society Executive Director, Kathie J. Lyman for her lifelong work furthering medical education.
