On November 22, Petersen assumed command of Naval Medical Research Unit No. 6 in Lima, Peru, after two years as the executive officer. Petersen’s new executive officer is Adam W. Armstrong, D.O.’96, showing how small Navy medicine is. For the next two years they will have an all-DMU team running the busiest Navy overseas research lab. NAMRU-6 develops vaccines, diagnostic lab tests for tropical infections like malaria and dengue, and supports national security as a forward deployed site for pandemic infectious disease surveillance.
