Get your promenade on

East Village Holiday Promenade 2013It is my favorite time of year combined with one of my favorite neighborhoods in Des Moines – the East Village Holiday Promenade!

The 12th Annual Holiday Promenade takes place tomorrow night from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and it is one you won’t want to miss.

Santa will be holding down the fort at The State Historical Building from 5 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. and Brenton Plaza from 6:15 p.m. – 7 p.m. There will be strolling carolers, ice skating, glowing holiday lights and all sorts of shopping during the holiday open house from 5 p.m. -9 p.m.

The kids will love the free horse-drawn hay rack rides from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the corner of East 5th and Walnut.

Shopping maps and event information will be available at Brenton Skating Plaza and the State Historical Building from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

As you stroll up and down the streets, keep your eyes peeled for decorated window fronts. Pick your favorite by accessing a ballot on your smartphone with the QR code or website address listed at each participating business. The winning store will be announced on December 13.
