Road-trip-worthy music fest

Pumptown

Like a lot of DMU students and alumni, Amy Hynek is multi-talented: In addition to earning her D.O. degree in 2010, she and members of her family – father Bill, sister Amanda and brother Joe, with crew support by mom Angie – make up the high-energy, highly musical band Pumptown.

Amy plays guitar, drums (she collects them), mandolin and more in the group, which performs original songs in an eclectic mix of folk rock, rock, pop, country, “island country” and polka. You can read all about the group in a past issue of DMU Magazine.

Pumptown’s talents go beyond performance, though: Saturday, May 28, marks the group’s fourth annual Farmer Song Fest, held on the family’s tree farm near Ellston, Iowa. In addition to three great bands, a dance floor and delicious fare served up by the Ellston Volunteer Fire Department, this year’s fest will feature a five-kilometer “Running of the Trees” fun run.

Sounds like a great road trip! Get your dancing shoes, grab your tent (free camping on the farm) and get ready for a rollicking, frolicking good time.
