DMU student club hosts national speakers for public health, nuclear weapon discussion

The Des Moines University (DMU) student chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility and the Des Moines Catholic Peace Ministry invite the public to attend a free event May 4 at noon in Des Moines University’s Academic Center, Ruza Lecture Hall, 3440 Grand Ave.

“It’s undeniable that our health is linked to the environment in which we live. Looking at the effects of radioactive material on public health issues, such as cancer, is important step towards understanding how we can improve our well-being,” said Hillary Haas, president of the DMU Student Physicians for Social Responsibility group.

“Moving to a world without nuclear weapons: public health & policy” will be presented by Robert Gould, M.D., chair of the American Public Health Association Peace Caucus, and Col. Richard Klass, executive director for the Veterans’ Alliance for Security and Democracy.

No RSVP is required; pizza will be provided. For info about Physicians for Social Responsibility, visit www.psr.org.
