Katie first became interested in research during her undergraduate education at the University of Minnesota. During her sophomore year, she began conducting research in the dietetics field. She spent the majority of her research work looking at the nutritional effects of Omega-3 Fatty Acids on the prevention of breast cancer. Following her undergraduate education, Katie entered the masters of biomedical sciences program at Des Moines University. While at DMU, she joined Dr. Julia Moffitt’s lab and began studying the role of vagal tone in mediating the arrhythmogenic response to acute stress. Katie feels that her work in the master of science in biomedical sciences program will help her to pursue a career in the research field.
