Yay! MSNBC picked Des Moines as one of the top 10 best midsize metro areas to live. (comparing 124 cities in 20 categories).
The highest scores went to well-rounded cities with “healthy economies, light traffic, moderate costs of living, impressive housing stocks and strong educational systems.”Â
Des Moines was highlighted as a great place for stress-free commute. It says the average person has a 19.7 minute commute time. That even seems high considering my friends and family’s drive times – my commute is 8 minutes!Â
Mid-size metro is considered a center city with at least 50,000 residents. Including surrounding suburbs and rural areas, the population ranges from 250,000-one million. I think the Des Moines metro area population is 500,000+.
