Gov. Tommy Thompson to kick-off health forum series Thursday
(Des Moines, IA) –– In an effort to shine a spotlight on health and wellness issues in Iowa, eight local medical organizations have partnered to create ‘A Healthy Discussion.’ A series of forums with presidential candidates, A Healthy Discussion will focus on issues important to local health care leaders from Des Moines University, Mercy Medical Center, Iowa Health-Des Moines, Broadlawns Medical Center, The Iowa Hospital Association, The Iowa Medical Society, The Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association and The Partnership for Better Health. The public is invited to attend the forums.
“There’s no question that health care will be one of the biggest issues of the upcoming presidential caucus and election,” explained Gov. Terry Branstad, Des Moines University president. “And Iowa voters need to know what candidates stand for. This is the perfect opportunity.”
The forums will be held at Des Moines University and continue through the caucuses in January. The first one kicks off Thursday, May 17 at noon. Gov. Tommy Thompson will be speaking for 30 minutes, then answering questions until 1 p.m. The public is invited to hear Governor Thompson’s ideas for health care in the United States and ask questions or share concerns, alongside Iowa health care leaders.
Thursday’s event will be held in the Des Moines University Student Education Center auditorium, 3300 Grand Ave.
Seating is limited to the first 400 registrants and lunch will be provided.
