DMU Receives $130,200 from MidAmerican for Energy Conservation

On December 15, 2005, MidAmerican Energy representatives presented a check in the amount of $130,200 to Des Moines University. This monetary award is for energy conservation improvements initiated by Des Moines University during the construction of the Student Education Center. The Student Center design team spent $215,000 for improvements beyond those called for by the Iowa State Energy Code baseline. As a result of these wise energy choices, the University will save about $45,000 in energy costs per year. “The real payback is not just MidAmerican’s award,” said David McNerney, Director of General Services, “but rather the $1,000,000 plus savings that will be realized over the lifespan of the building.”

The Energy Design Team lead by Steve Dengle, Caron Findlay and David McNerney used MidAmerican’s Commercial New Construction Program as a source of information and revenue for the energy saving improvement decisions.
