An extra layer of protection

This fall, in a letter to all students, DMU President Angela L. Walker Franklin, Ph.D., welcomed new students and those returning (either on campus, or in a clinical setting). She stated, “Beginning this new academic year has been uniquely challenging for all faculty, staff and students of Des Moines University. I applaud all for your perseverance, patience and strength as we navigate the new world changed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Your journey through an advanced educational track is rigorous in a normal situation, but now it is made more difficult due to this public health crisis.”

Along with this letter, all 1,559 students received a Des Moines University branded face shield and a reusable protective gown. Alumni and friends who gave to the DMU Fund helped provide the personal protective equipment (PPE) for our students to ensure they continue learning and serving our community safely. Chance Johnson, a second-year student in the master of anatomy program, is pictured below in his new PPE from the University.

President Franklin ended the letter to students by encouraging them “to continue to be vigilant and safe as we endure these unprecedented conditions.”
