David Coffman, D.O.’93

David Coffman, D.O.’93, joined the surgical team at Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC) in Fort Kent. He had worked for the hospital as a general and trauma surgeon and intensive care provider from 2012 to 2016. After completing his general surgery residency at Des Moines General Hospital in 1998, where he was the chief resident, he completed a transplant mentorship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a general surgery internship at Des Moines General Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in trauma and general surgery at Yale University Hospital in New Haven, CT, as well as fire and trauma management training at Yale Hospital. In 2002 he completed an Advanced Trauma Operational Management course at the University of Connecticut. In addition to his medical practice, he is an associate professor of medicine and surgery at Touro University College of Medicine in Vallejo, CA, where he was honored by his students as a Primary Care Teacher of the Year; and assistant professor of surgery and the longitudinally integrated curriculum surgery lead at NMMC for the Frank H. Netter, M.D., School of Medicine of Quinnipiac University in North Haven, CT. Widely published, nationally and internationally, in the medical field and beyond, Coffman is working on a manuscript describing his research into pedagogy in medical education. He has received the Top Physician Award from the Consumer Council of America four times.
