On Friday, July 18, more than 80 people gathered to celebrate the conclusion of Des Moines University’s 2014 Mentored Student Research Program. Impressively diverse with 13 undergraduate students from various colleges and universities, and 39 Des Moines University students representing the D.O., D.P.M., D.P.T. and M.H.A. programs, this summer was an outstanding success! 32 faculty members participated in the program as mentors for these talented and intensive students.
Participants focused on projects ranging from microbiology and biochemistry to physical therapy and public health, and everything else around and in-between. As a result of their eight weeks of hard work and dedication, the closing program featured 27 student poster presentations, as well as four student keynote speakers to present their research. The closing program also featured a guest speaker from George Washington University; Dr. Michelle Stock, who received her Ph.D. from Iowa State University.
Following the conclusion of the program this summer, a number of students have chosen to continue working with their mentors, conducting more research and further developing their own talents and experiences. We look forward to seeing their development and discoveries at the Des Moines University Research Symposium in December!
