DMU students rock residency placement

The osteopathic medical students and podiatric medical students who are members of the Des Moines University Class of 2019 were strong contenders for postgraduate residencies, the next phase of their medical training. Of the 220 class members in the College of Osteopathic Medicine who entered the match pool, 219 landed residencies, for a match rate of 99.5 percent.

All 52 class members of the College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery matched into residencies.

The osteopathic students landed residencies in 37 states, the highest number – 28 – in Iowa. Consistent with DMU’s track record of producing highly needed physicians in primary care, 54 of the graduates will go on to residencies in family medicine, 30 in pediatrics and 25 in internal medicine. Thirty-three graduates will have residencies in emergency medicine.
