Dr. de Regnier epitomizes commitment to patient care, leadership in and service to his profession, and investment in medical students and future physicians.After earning his doctorate of osteopathy in 1985 at Des Moines University (DMU), Dr. de Regnier completed both an internship and residency in family practice at Des Moines General Hospital. He then joined Madison County (IA) Medical Associates, PC, in 1987, where he continues to practice in family medicine. He attributes his interest in medicine after working and taking an EMT course, where he became more interested in the emergency room than the ambulance. He says that since graduating from DMU he has been able to provide quality care to the patients that he serves.Dr. de Regnier is now president-elect of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), of which he is a distinguished fellow. He also was appointed by Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad to serve on the Iowa Health Systems and Plans Committee of Iowa Health Regulation Task Force as well as the Data Committee of the Community Health Management Information System.Certified by the National Board of Examiners for Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. de Regnier has stayed involved with DMU over the years as an adjunct faculty member in family medicine and by taking students into his practice. He says that staying involved allows him to keep in touch with the students and education. He adds that he wouldn’t be where he is today without the education that he received from DMU, which is why it’s important to him to give back. His advice to students is “you only get out of it what you put into it.” He emphasizes the importance of staying active and participating in one’s own life-long learning.When he isn’t at work or serving on the local health board, Dr. de Regnier spends time with his church board.
