Friday recipe: Cheerio berry smoothie

We hear it all the time, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” or ” a smart day starts with breakfast” or whatever similar version of that statement it might be, right? And yet raise your hand if you take time for a breakfast. Ok, put your hands down, this is a blog and I can’t see you.

So, for those of you who fly through the morning without your proper nutritional start, why don’t you whip up a smoothie? Ok, ok, those of you who “don’t have time” you can make them the night before and grab before you go….OR you can throw just your berries and bananas in the freezer so your drink is instantly cold when you blend it in the morning.

I love smoothies and I usually throw in berries and yogurt. This recipe is one I have got to try. Check out the ingredients…

Cheerio berry-banana smoothie – from

1 cup fat free vanilla or strawberry yogurt
1/2 cup CheeriosĀ® cereal
2 Tbl ground flaxseed or flaxseed meal
1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberry halves or raspberries
1/2 cup fat-free (skim) milk
1/2 banana, sliced

Put all ingredients in blender; blend on high speed about 30 seconds until smooth. Pour mixture into 2 glasses. Serve immediately.
