DMU chosen as a “2010 Great College to Work For”

August 4, 2010 —

Des Moines University (DMU) was one of 97 schools chosen by The Chronicle of Higher Education’s new report “Great Colleges to Work For.”

Results were based on surveys of more than 42,000 employees at 277 colleges and universities around the United States. DMU was specially recognized in the categories of professional/career-development programs; compensation and benefits; facilities, workspaces and security.

“Getting such a great review from The Chronicle based on feedback from our own employees is wonderful. We are excited to receive this recognition and will continue to make this a place employees are happy to be,” said Interim DMU President Stephen Dengle.

Des Moines University has been surveying employees for years, participating in the “Best Places to Work for” program until this year. Each year the data is used to guide initiatives for improvement.
Great Colleges to Work For is one of the largest workplace-recognition programs in the country. Buena Vista University was the only other school in Iowa chosen.

Des Moines University (DMU) is the only private medical school in Iowa, offering graduate-level, professional degree programs in osteopathic medicine, podiatric medicine, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, biomedical sciences, anatomy, health care administration and public health. Founded in 1898, the institution offers superior academics in a collaborative environment. DMU students' pass rate on national examinations and board certifications is consistently higher than the national average and the rates at similar institutions.

Proud daughter and patient of DMU alumni, Courtney knows, first-hand, that Des Moines University is doing a world of good. A fan of all outdoor festivals, fruity drinks and nearly all edibles, she has a hard time narrowing down her list of favorite places to go and things to do but lists the Iowa State Fair as an all-time fave. She loves her 8-minute commute to DMU from Urbandale, a suburb of Des Moines. She and husband Tyler are owned by three large dogs, Tonka, Tucker and Tank.
