Undergrad School: Iowa State University
What is your advice for prospective students?
Enjoy your time here. I have been here for a year and I have had some of my most memorable experiences here. This is a great place to learn and make friends, take advantage of it for as long as you can!
Why do you want to be a PT?
The ability for physical therapists to work cooperatively with patients is unlike any other healthcare profession. As a PT I get the distinction of helping to improve the human experience in a very personal way!
What is a typical day like as a PT student?
Wake up around 6, work out. Then class from 8:00-3:00 with an hour break. Study til about 5 or 6 and then RELAX the rest of the night!
What are your extracurricular activities at DMU?
I am involved in intramural basketball. In addition I am also serving the curriculum committee as a representative for the class of DPT 2016, a student ambassador for the Admissions Staff, and a research assistant to Dr. Lowry.
What do you do when you’re not studying?
Anything and everything – workout, watch movies, hang out with friends, fish!
Why did you choose DMU?
I come from a small town and one of the most endearing parts of living in a small town is the sense of community you get. I got the same exact sense from the faculty, staff, and students from DMU. People here genuinely care about who you are, where you came from, and where you’re going!
Were you surprised by anything in the program?
I was a little surprised when I got here how well respected I am for being just a student from DMU. Whenever I tell someone I am attending DMU they instantly know about the university and I have a sense that people greatly respect the university.
What is your favorite thing about Des Moines?
The FOOD! Des Moines has really developed somewhat of a “Foodie” culture. There are great, and somewhat unknown places to eat and hang out in this town.
