Class: Doctor of Podiatric Medicine – Class of 2016

Why did you choose DMU?

I chose DMU because I felt it would be the best school to help prepare me academically and clinically for a career in podiatric medicine. After interviewing and touring a number of the other schools, I thought it was easy to see that DMU stood above the rest in the technology, the facilities, and especially the students and faculty who seemed to go out of their way to answer any of my questions.

Were you surprised by anything in the program?

I was expecting a rough transition from undergrad to medical school, but between orientation, second year “big siblings”, and the other DMU resources, it was very smooth. Students support each other by sharing resources with programs such as Notepool, Dropbox, and class survival guides to share tips, study guides, and suggested resources.

Any advice for prospective students?

I would encourage prospective students to apply as early as possible in the application process. DMU accepts on a rolling basis and it is to your advantage to get your application in early. Also, apply for the Summer Podiatry Preview here at DMU. It is an excellent way to see both roles of the podiatric student and physician first hand in the Foot and Ankle Clinic.

Extracurricular activities/club involvement at DMU:

ACFAOM (American College of Foot & Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine), SCACFAS (Student Chapter of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons), Rural Medicine, and intramural sports.

Career objectives:

After completing a surgical residency, I plan to practice in an underserved area in rural Iowa to begin my career.
