Kay Rudnitsky, O.T.D., OTR/L, CLT

Areas of Expertise

Dr. Rudnitsky‘s career experience before Des Moines University occurred in a large urban academic medical center in Chicago, Illinois – the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System. Clinically, she worked in acute care, acute rehabilitation, specialty outpatient and community-based chronic disease self-management workshops. For the decade preceding academia, she was in various administrative roles that included leadership of occupational and physical therapy teams in her clinical areas as well as inpatient behavioral health and pediatrics, mentorship, program development, staff engagement, quality and safety improvement, support of clinical internship programs and hospital-wide projects and multidisciplinary collaborations. She also had an adjunct teaching role in the University of Illinois at Chicago OT department and helped facilitate campus-wide interprofessional education and collaborative practice activities.

Dr. Rudnitsky is passionate about hospital-based practice topics, occupational therapy identity in medical settings, leadership development, interprofessional education and collaborative practice, and chronic disease self-management.

Dr. Rudnitsky’s undergraduate degree is in Health Promotion from the University of Iowa. She earned her master’s and post-professional doctorate degrees in occupational therapy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist and credentialed facilitator of the Self-Management Resource Center’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Program.

Service and Community Involvement

Dr. Rudnitsky is a member of the Coalition of Occupational Therapy Advocates for Diversity, the Iowa Occupational Therapy Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association. She is on AOTA’s Roster of Approved Provider Program Reviewers and a conference reviewer for AOTA and IOTA. Past service in Chicago included membership and volunteer terms working on the newsletter for the Illinois Occupational Therapy Association and co-chairing the Chicago Area Council for Occupational Therapy Directors.
