Home town: Madisonville, LA
Undergrad school: Louisiana State University
Major: Biological Sciences
Class: Doctor of Podiatric medicine – Class of 2015
Were you surprised by anything in the program?
I knew coming in that medical school would be anything but a cake walk, but even I was surprised by the difficulty. However, despite the demand and stress, it is still a manageable and enjoyable experience.
Any advice for prospective students?
Make connections with classmates. They will become your second family and support group. I cannot imagine how I would have made it through those stressful exam periods without my friends.
Why do you want to be a doctor of podiatric medicine?
My world has always revolved around my feet. Since kindergarten, I have been a competitive runner, and my feet have been the pillar of my sport. As a podiatrist, I get the opportunity to perform surgical procedures and work with feet on a daily basis. It’s a runner’s dream come true.
As soon as I stepped foot on DMU’s campus, I knew it was the school for me. It was the full package: the outstanding academic program, faculty and staff, students, and overall atmosphere.
My goal is to join a sports medicine or orthopedic practice at either a hospital or private practice setting.
Favorite thing about Des Moines:
Des Moines has an extremely extensive trail system and pathways for the avid runner. Locals in the Des Moines area also have the typical “southern hospitality” personalities and are willing to bend over backwards to make you feel at home.
