About

Dr. Lim is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health at Des Moines University, where he has been actively involved in the M.H.A. and M.P.H. programs since 2017. He holds a doctoral degree in health policy and administration from Penn State University, with a specialized focus on economics and policy. Additionally, he pursued studies in health care administration at the University of Missouri – Columbia. Dr. Lim’s primary research interest lies in examining health policy changes and their impact on people’s health service utilization and health outcomes from an economic perspective. As an educator, he has been actively teaching health economics and health finance courses at DMU. Moreover, he is genuinely passionate about assisting M.H.A./M.P.H. students in navigating their educational journey successfully within the programs. Dr. Lim is also actively engaged in advising and mentoring students on their research projects, fostering their growth and development.

Research

Dr. Lim’s research focuses on evaluating health policy changes, with a specific emphasis on health insurance policies, and their impact on patients’ health service utilization and outcomes from an economic perspective. In particular, his interest lies in investigating how individuals modify their prescription drug consumption patterns and healthcare decision-making behaviors, particularly concerning non-properly used medications, in response to the implementation of new insurance policies like the Medicare Part D program and the Affordable Care Act. Furthermore, Dr. Lim is intrigued by exploring the influence of various social, economic, and environmental factors, such as race/ethnicity and insurance status, on the disparities in health service utilization, spending and health outcomes among different population groups. His goal is to shed light on the connections between health policy changes and their potential effects on health equity and access to care for vulnerable communities.
