David Kapaska, D.O.’86, M.B.A., was appointed interim dean of Des Moines University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine beginning Feb. 1, 2024.

Dr. Kapaska is the retired president and CEO of Avera McKennan Hospital, part of Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Named the 2020 COM Alumnus of the Year, Dr. Kapaska served as a DMU Board of Trustees member from 2017 to 2023, culminating as board chair.
