Alumnus receives prestigious ACOFP honor

Joseph P. McNerney, D.O.’80, FACOFP dist., has devoted his life and career to serving patients, his profession and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. The Michigan doctor, health system leader and past member of the DMU Board of Trustees was honored for his service this spring.

McNerney received the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award during the ACOFP annual convention and scientific seminars in Kissimmee, FL. The award recognizes an outstanding osteopathic family physician who shows career-long service to patients, the profession, and to ACOFP. McNerney is the director of medical education and a program director for the St. Johns Providence Health System – Osteopathic Division in Warren, MI, the secretary for the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, and the president of the Macomb County Osteopathic Medical Association.
